New HitFilm users are sometimes confused by the naming and numbering scheme used for versions of the software. This quick reference chart was assembled in an attempt to turn confusion into clarity.
Wherever possible, links to either blog posts or other official FXhome update pages will be included for reference. The list is in reverse chronological order, with the most recent releases at the top.
NOTE: This chart covers major releases only, not x.1, x.2, etc.
Main points to note:
- HitFilm began with no number or date in its name
- v2-v4 included the version number in the product name
- v5 is the only version to include the year in the product name
- The version number was dropped from Pro beginning with v6, and from Express beginning with v8
- The version number was reintroduced to the name beginning with v12 in 2019
- The year was reintroduced to the name in March 2021 with Express/Pro 2021.1 (still v16)
