January 2021 Updates

I don’t want to dwell too much on the struggles of last year, but one of them was just keeping up with personal projects, including both of my YouTube channels. While I did get some videos done at various points, not all of them got plugged here, so this is going to be a mass catch-up post.

Clever Tagline

The last video posted to the Clever Tagline channel was in June, so technically this update is the one that’s the most overdue. In early December I saw a fun effect created using Cavalry where the brightness of an image or video was used to drive the display of dice faces. Cavalry has some features that make this relatively easy, but I knew that a different approach would be required for HitFilm. After a bit of play, I figured out how to pull it off, and then used that effect when making my contribution to FXhome’s year-end wrap-up video. As I started 2021 with renewed enthusiasm, it was only fitting that I walk through the creation of that effect.

All About That Base

I actually released a couple of All About That Base videos in the fall, but totally dropped the ball on plugging them anywhere. The first was a walk through the creation of a formula for creating custom age formats.

Then just a few short days later, Airtable released a new feature that caught everyone by (pleasant) surprise: syncing tables between bases. After seeing this new effect and playing with it for just a few minutes, I knew that I just had to release a video about it.

In related news, my renewed 2021 enthusiasm has me working more consistently on All About That Base videos as well, though I’ve got some catching up to do on unfinished tasks related to older videos. I don’t want to talk specifics about my production schedule just yet, but let’s just say that I’m aiming to balance production for both channels as best I can throughout the coming year.

  1. Hello I went to Alex’s GitHub and downloaded a python version of your Tweenmachine but it didn’t work for May 2023. Cause it uses python 2 and Maya 2023 uses python 3, is there a copy of the python 3 version out there ? I hate see a good program go extinct because people didn’t update it.
    Thank you

    1. Thanks for the note! My apologies for not updating the site sooner, but I was approached last year by a new developer who wanted to move things forward after noticing a lack of activity from Alex. I just checked his GitHub repo, and he released a Python 3 version just a few days ago. I’ll update the main tweenMachine page soon to point to this new repo. In the meantime, here’s the new link:
