I gotta give major props to the folks at FXhome, makers of HitFilm VFX and editing software. Not just for the updated software (which I still haven’t had time to touch since it’s release a couple days ago), but for the new short showcasing what can be done with HitFilm Express.
When this short was posted, I was in the middle of a busy work day away from home, and wasn’t in an environment where I could enjoy it with the sound on. I still wanted to see it, though, so I muted the audio on my phone and played it anyway.
And it worked!
I’m not talking about “working” in the sense of playing vs not playing. I mean the pacing, storytelling and comedy worked perfectly, and even had me cracking up in several places, despite the fact that I was watching a silent movie. Several hours later, when I was able to watch it with the sound on, the score, sound effects, and audio editing definitely enhanced the experience, but also drove home the point that the edit was rock solid without it, which is just awesome.
So what are you waiting for? Watch it already!
