tweenMachine 3.0.0 beta preview

Here’s a quick peek at what you can get in the beta version of tweenMachine 3.0.0 for Maya…which is available now!

This version will happily sit alongside the original MEL version if you already have that installed. Unfortunately I only have room on my poor little laptop for Maya 2013 and 2014, so I don’t know how it behaves in more recent versions.  If you run into any issues, please let me know and I’ll look into them as soon as I can.

  1. Hey, thanks for sharing this tool. Great and a must for an animator. by any chance the normal tween and the overshoot can be set at the same time on the UI?

    Thanks again!

    1. You’re welcome, Thiago! Regarding your question, are you asking if overshoot could be set only on one side of the slider, leaving the other side at the normal range? Or am I misunderstanding your question?

      1. What I meant was having at the same time 2 sliders, one for normal tween and the second one right below or at the side (I would prefer to be on the side as I loved the dock feature and it would fit nicely on my maya UI setup), for the overshoot.
Also testing here, in case you haven’t seen already, the overshoot slider is behaving a little odd, I could only overshoot when clicking at the max value of the slider, and at minimum it is taking the object to it’s previous neighbour position, where I think it should go as much as it could overshooting in this opposite direction. Perhaps the slider would reset to default value as soon as you release it, so you can overshoot again from your current position. Hope it makes sense some how. Thanks again man.

        1. Thanks for the clarification. Frankly, I’m hesitant to add a second slider just for overshoot. One of my goals has always been to keep the tweenMachine UI as compact as possible. I would rather find more efficient ways to modify the existing slider’s behavior rather than effectively doubling the UI size by adding another slider.

After reading your description of the overshoot behavior, I’m wondering if you’re misunderstanding how the slider is supposed to work in overshoot mode. All that it does is change the slider range from -100 to 100, to -150 to 150, effectively allowing you to overshoot either the previous or next pose by 50%. For example, say you have a sphere moving from -10 to 10 on the X axis using two keyframes, and are making a breakdown key in the middle. In normal mode, tweenMachine lets you create tween poses only in that range of -10 to 10. In overshoot mode, fully moving the slider to the left will set the sphere’s X translate value to -15, while moving it all the way to the right will set it to 15. I realize that a 50% overshoot may not be enough for some situations, though, and plan to give users direct control over the overshoot mode values in a future release.

          1. Awesome, I got it! As for the compact UI option, I totally respect heheh, that would only go by my own taste perhaps. But thanks for explaining the overshoot option, I was trying it in a wrong way.
I will be synced to news on it. Thanks again Justin!

  2. Hey, this is an amazing tool. Been messing around with v3.0 and it’s small footprint and docking helps with screen clutter so much. Love every bit of it. I wanted to ask if there a possibility to have it docked and stay on after I closed maya. Everytime I reopen maya, it turns off till I ask it to come back on via shelf button again. It’s really a small thing but it would be nice to have it remember to stay open with the rest of my preference.
    Thanks,
    -Tuan

    1. You’ve been reading my mind, Tuan! That’s one of the many features I plan on adding as I continue development of the new version. Not sure how soon it’ll get added, but it’s definitely on the list. Thanks for the feedback!
